Yield: about 2 cups (16 ounces

Take a dropper of this digestive blend before each meal to stimulate acid production in the stomach. Amounts do not need to be exact. Most items, including dropper bottles, can be purchased at a local herb store or ordered online.

9 grams artichoke leaf
5 grams whole green cardamom pods
5 grams cinnamon sticks
5 grams licorice root
1 ounce gentian
1/2 ounce dandelion root
1/2 ounce fresh orange peel
1/2 ounce fresh ginger root
Vodka or brandy to cover

Place the herbs in a quart-sized mason jar and pour the alcohol over the herbs to the top of the bottle. Shake the bottle everyday and allow to steep for 30 days.

Strain off the herbs and pour some of the tincture into a dropper bottle for daily use. Store the remaining tincture in the mason jar in a cool place; it will keep indefinitely.

If I can’t find gentian, can I leave it out or substitute something else?

Just leave it out. There are lots of bitters in there, no problem.
